Bury’s Traditional Canada Day Carries On

actualite

This year, Bury will indeed host a celebration in honour of Canada, and it will be in person after two years of absence. It has become a habit for the citizens of the Haut-Saint-François; Bury has hosted this celebration for over 90 years. For this edition, the festivities will mainly take place in the Memorial Park, starting Friday evening and lasting until late Saturday evening.
The activities will begin on Friday evening, July 1st, when participants can attend a talent contest and the selection of the winners of the Decorate your House contest, while the little ones can enjoy the installation of inflatables. Guests can stretch their legs on the dance floor to the performance of musician Sidney Aulis.
The party will continue all day the next day, starting at 7 a.m. Young children are invited to a fishing tournament in the pond in front of the Pope Memorial School. At the Armoury, the Bury Historical Society will offer strawberry shortcake. At lunchtime will be a grand parade, mostly on Main Street. A meal service will be offered on site and family activities will resume at 1 p.m. with an acrobatic trampoline, a clown, a make-up station and inflatables always available for children. In the afternoon, a gymkhana will take place, as well as a mechanical shovel competition and a lumberjack competition. At the same time, the group Movin’ On will play and in the evening, the Slightly Haggard band will ignite the stage with their country music.
Fireworks are scheduled for 10 p.m. Saturday, and the local band will perform until 1 a.m. to allow fans to exhaust their energy on the dance floor.
This celebration is possible thanks to the support and time of a group of volunteers of fewer than ten people who are part of the non-profit organization, the Athletic Association de Bury, which works very hard to make this day enjoyable, dynamic and memorable. This association also organizes Halloween parties and Christmas Day at the village in collaboration with the municipality of Bury.
