Greetings, Gabrielle Joncas-Brunet!
Gabrielle has just been hired to be a Community Outreach worker for the English-speaking community in the Haut-Saint-François (that’s us). Her new job consists of 21 hours a week for families with children aged 0 to 5, and another 4 hours for anyone, regardless of age.
Her first step was to learn what services are available in English, what are needed, and then «to try to bridge the gap.» Offering information and referral is a big part of her job, both for English-speaking persons and for health care workers.
What have you learned so far? I asked. «That everybody’s excited about this, because it was driven from a need in the community. It was English-speaking partners working with the CLSC and other groups who mentioned this was what they wanted.»
And what would you like to say to the English-speaking public? «Call me! It’s confidential. It can just be a question, it doesn’t have to be an extreme need. I’m totally willing to talk with you, so please don’t be shy. Just use my cell phone: 819-570-7814.
Gabrielle has a one-year contract with the HSF-Fou de ses enfants, a non-profit group offering services to young families. You can guess what that means: Use her or lose her…
Welcome aboard, Gabrielle!
