BOOK BY SHARRON

Rachel Garber

“Today’s mighty oak is just yesterday’s nut that held its ground.” That’s the closing quote in Sharron Hodge Rothney’s new book, Potty Gleanings. It has an outhouse on the front cover, and she describes it as “a collection of local tales and facts for your bathroom reading pleasure.” All in comfortably large print, a fat spiral-bound book of 280 pages.

There’s the how-to of a homemade herbal bath. Snippets of local history, stories about characters bearing such familiar names as Laberee, Merrill, Potter, or Winslow. And little sayings from many, many different sources.

The book launch at the Eaton Corner Museum on October 14th was packed with fun, music and people who had “contributed in some way” to Rothney’s book.
