Skaters and hockey fans in the Sawyerville area of Cookshire-Eaton can breathe more easily; they will have a temporary skating rink for the 2022-2023 season.
The latter had been dismantled in anticipation of the construction of a new one with all the necessary infrastructure. Due to the calls for tenders received for the project to repair the three skating rinks in Johnville, Cookshire and Sawyerville, the municipal council has agreed to wait until 2023 before proceeding.
In order not to penalize the users of the Sawyerville sector, it was agreed to temporarily put the skating rink back in place. However, the work will include the installation of new boards, which will be reused during the installation of the permanent ice rink scheduled for 2023. In addition, the existing lighting system will be replaced by light-emitting diode (LED) floodlights. These new lights will have a power of 28,000 lumens, which is a significant improvement, explained Claude Leclair, director of communications for the Town of Cookshire-Eaton.
