Cookshire Agricultural Fair president Brandon Ward is in his second year at the helm. He is supported by a whole troop of volunteers and collaborators; among others are, especially, the members of his organizing committee.
The annual Agricultural Fair, all will agree, is a very great tradition in Cookshire-Eaton, counting at least 176 years of existence as of 2023, and it is in great preparation. The organizing committee, chaired for a second year by Brandon Ward, at the head of many volunteers, has decided to make certain changes to its August 17 to 20 programming.
Thus, the activities withdrawn this year, “which will not take place,” listed the Fair’s president Brandon Ward at his Lennoxville office, are “the wrestling gala on Thursday evening, the arm wrestling competition on Saturday afternoon, the horse pull on Sunday evening and the Mexican fiesta on Sunday afternoon.”
“In 2022, we had a record year, an exceptional year!” he recalled. “But the Fair is as big, each year, as the previous one. We hope that Mother Nature will be on our side this year. She is the one who decides a lot of things at Expo Cookshire! For the youngest, inflatable games are back. In addition, they will have lots of entertainments, not to mention the rides.”
“Our mascot is a real vache à lait, [both a cash cow and a milk cow]. It’s a pun and more! You have to see the Center Mc Auley, where the bar is located, with the bands playing music, and the dance floor, on Friday and Saturday evening. And I draw your attention to the younger generation, this year, the 4-H youth!” said Ward.
“In terms of novelties, teenagers have not been forgotten. They are invited to an on-site video game trailer that is, on top of everything, free of charge! A karaoke night has also been added Thursday evening at 7 p.m., with Lisa Addis, at the Winslow tent. Don’t miss the Farmers’ Olympics on Thursday evening, the treasure hunt on Saturday at 2 p.m. and the modified mini-tractor pull on Sunday at 6 p.m. with the Club des p’tits tracteurs, as well as giant outdoor board games. The bands that will provide the music this year will be Slightly Haggard, Friday and Saturday evening, and Country Swingers on Sunday afternoon,” added the president.
Admission to the Cookshire Agricultural Fair this year will cost $10 on Thursday, $20 on Friday or Sunday, and $25 on Saturday. But instead of $75 for all four days, a pass is available for the entire duration of the expo, for $45 if purchased online, or for $50 if bought at the door.
The Cookshire Fair, it must be said, also includes the judging of animals, such as light horses, draft horses with halters, small animals, sheep and goats, beef cattle, dairy cattle, etc. In addition, there will be equestrian competitions, animal parades, a big general parade, the arrival of the mascots, various horse teams, and a treasure hunt led by young breeders…. The schedule of activities gives the particulars! It is recommended to consult the official Fair brochure, which is full of details and useful information, as well as the organization’s website: www.expocookshire.com.
“A good Fair for everyone!” concluded Ward.
