In collaboration with the Arm Wrestling Association of Quebec, the Cookshire Fair is presenting its first amateur arm-wrestling competition. Women and men of the region are invited to register for the double-elimination tournement, which will offer a dozen prizes in as many categories.
The confrontations between amateur wrestlers will be interspersed with four professional duels featuring Canadian champions in the field. Presiding over the contests will be none other than the actor Paul Dion (Les Pêcheurs, Providence), who is very involved in this kind of competition at the provincial level.
Official referees will also supervise the competition, one of them being Simon Perron from Cookshire-Eaton. Perron went to the provincial wrestling championship in May 2018 to win the title of Quebec champion 198 to 220 pounds for the left arm, and that of vice-champion of Quebec in the same category for the right arm.
The tournement on Saturday, August 17, is open to all, whether or not they have already taken part in such a competition. A number of weight classes are open: Under 165 lbs, 166 to 200 lbs, 201 to 225 lbs, and over 226 lbs. For women, the categories are 150 lbs or under, and 151 lbs or more.
