The Sawyerville Community Garden team members are in the midst of preparing for the summer season. They are planning new structures and activities, in compliance with health regulations.

In the spring, a new construction will be added to those already present. “A new shelter will be built, 10 x 50 feet, to accommodate producers and processors at the market,” explained the president, Chantal Bolduc. All of these facilities will allow many community activities to take place over the summer.

Because a Seed Festival was not possible in person this spring, the organizers made it a virtual one. The event offered information about seed producers as well as digital conferences. Regarding the pandemic, Bolduc suggested that the Community Garden is one of the solutions to get through this ordeal.

“The best way to protect yourself is to have a strong immune system. Many studies have shown that clean air, physical exercise, and eating vegetables, fruits and good foods contribute to good health,” she said, inviting members of the public to participate in the project. Citizens can rent a plot in the garden at a cost of $20. “This offers the possibility of gardening using ecological methods. Compost, mulch, and gardening tools such as grelinettes, rakes, and garlic or leek plotters are available in the garden,” explained the president.

The annual general meeting will take place April 17. All the details are available on the Facebook page of the organization.
